Manage your Website

Welcome to your Website Dashboard!

We've tried to make your Website Dashboard as user-friendly as possible for you.  Below you'll find more information on what you'll most likely need to access most.

More information

When you see this icon, you can click it to show more information, including a link to any extra user guides or documentation.

Here's some super quick links to take you to each section...

Section 1

While every website we create is different, there are base functions that are in every one.
There are also different 'User Roles' to give varying levels of access.  You may have full 'Administrator' access, or maybe a scaled down, less confusing 'Editor' access.  What you see in your 'Dashboard' will depend on your user role.
If you don't see any of the features below, don't panic!
If there's something you feel you need, just open up a ticket to us ... see the link below.

Dashboard

The WordPress admin dashboard, often called WP Admin or WP admin panel, is essentially the control panel for your entire WordPress website. It’s where you create and manage content, add functionality in the form of plugins, change styling in the form of themes, and lots, lots more.

If you’re using WordPress, the WordPress admin panel is going to be a big part of your life. For that reason, it’s important to understand where to find the WordPress admin, what it lets you do, and how you can use it to manage your site.

Blog Posts

Add blog posts on your website that can then be shared to social media, and used in your email marketing newsletters.
Blogging is the secret sauce in SEO!

Static Pages

Pages are static.  They don't change very often and contain specific information about your business. Things like About, Contact, Home, Services, FAQ etc.

Media Library

The Media Library is where you manage your uploads... images, video, audio, pdf's and any other files you upload to your website.

Under the Media menu, there are two screens. The first screen Library lists all the files in the media library. These files can be edited and deleted from the library. The second screen is Add New, which allows you to upload files. You can also upload media (images, videos, etc) while writing a post or page. However, the Add New link under allows you to upload files without attaching them to a specific post or page.

We have a few different sections for you to learn more about the Media and the Media Library:

Page Builder

Beaver Builder / Page Builder is used to design those gorgeous pages on your website.
When you go to 'edit' a page, post, product etc... if you see a little notice that says "Beaver Builder is currently active for this page" along with a button "Launch Beaver Builder" - then you MUST MUST MUST use Beaver Builder or your page design will break!! Don't panic tho - you can quickly get the design back by simply 'editing' with Beaver Builder and 'Publish' the page.  Phew!

Classic Editor

The Classic Editor is the default editor for WordPress. On it's own, it doesn't give us much design flexibility, which is why we prefer to use Beaver Builder to create our fabulousness!

You still need to learn a little more about it tho, as it's still relevant in some places, including to use within Beaver Builder.

Blog Posts & ecommerce Products are typically where you'll see the Classic Editor being used on it's own, rather than Beaver Builder. On saying that, it is absolutely possible to use Beaver Builder for those too.

Menus | Navigation

The tabs at the top of your website are called 'Menus' or 'Navigation'.  We don't call them 'Tabs' - that's a whole other thing 😉

Depending on the theme used in your website, the Menus should be managed in Appearance > Customiser.

Section 3

eCommerce - Online Store

Your online store function is run by WooCommerce, which a WordPress plugin.

Products

Before we get into products, we need to get familiar with how product categories, tags, and attributes work.

You need to understand

Product Categories

Product categories and tags work in much the same way as normal categories and tags you have when writing blog posts. They can be created, edited, and selected at any time. This can be done when you first create a product or come back and edit it or the category/tag specifically.

Attributes

These can be added per product, or you can set up global attributes for the entire store to use (e.g., in layered navigation).

Product Types

With attributes and categories set up and stock management configured, we can begin adding products. When adding a product, the first thing to decide is what type of product it is.

Simple – covers the vast majority of any products you may sell. Simple products are shipped and have no options. For example, a book.
Grouped – a collection of related products that can be purchased individually and only consist of simple products. For example, a set of six drinking glasses.
Virtual – one that doesn’t require shipping. For example, a service. Enabling this, disables all shipping related fields such as shipping dimensions. A virtual product will also not trigger the shipping calculator in cart and checkout.
Downloadable – activates additional fields where you can provide a downloadable file. After a successful purchase, customers are given a downloadable file as a link in the order notification email. This is suitable, for example, for a digital album, PDF magazine, or photo.
External or Affiliate – one that you list and describe on your website but is sold elsewhere.
Variable – a product with variations, each of which may have a different SKU, price, stock option, etc. For example, a t-shirt available in different colors and/or sizes.

So now that's clear (as mud?) ... let's learn more:

Now let's get into adding, managing & removing your products.

One thing to keep in mind ... if you have products that are currently out of stock, you don't need to delete them - you can just save them as a 'Draft' which will hide them from your website visitors 😉
